Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

This is one of my favorite books lately. The strength of the main character developed over the course of decades. I was so excited to read it that I bought two accidently. I sent one to my aunt and I am so excited to see if she liked it as much as I did.

  1. I really liked Sarah's Key, too. I was totally haunted by the main plot point (which I won't reveal for those who haven't read it...). This was the last of three books in a row that I read about Nazi Germany, so I was a little emotionally exhausted. Nonetheless, I would totally recommend one of the other books I read, too - The Book Thief. I think it's actually classified as a teen read, but it felt really mature. It was so well-written and beautifully emotional. So good!

  2. I am just starting this book based on your recommendation. So far I am intrigued. I am the type of reader who has to like a book in the first few pages or I put it down permanently. If you enjoy learning history though accounts like Sarah's Key, I would recommend Life & Death in Shanghi by Nien Chang. Her account of the cultural revolution in China is riviting. She spent six years in solitary confinement and her writing is witness to her mind's ability to do battle with that loneliness and combat the cruelty of her captors. Fascinating and I know Sarah's Key will be the same. Thank you.
